A pump is an essential component on commercial ice machines. The part is needed for water to be circulated through the machine to create ice. Whether it’s a new unit that needs to be assembled or an older one in need of a replacement, it’s vital this part gets properly installed. Thankfully, Ice-O-Matic is here to help. How to Install an Ice-O-Matic GEMU090 Pump Kit

  1. Step 1. Remove the panel – To properly access where the pump kit goes in the unit, you need to remove the small side and back panel. There are 11 screws on the back of the unit that can be unscrewed to free the panels.
  2. Step 2. Install the vent blocker – The pump kit comes with a vent blocker that goes towards the front of the metal stud.
  3. Step 3. Remove the gravity drain assembly – Loosen the c-clip  securing the assembly. Then, you can pull out the drain assembly.
  4. Step 4. Install the drain tube – Take the drain tube from the kit and connect the wide end to the drain. Use the c-clip from the gravity drain assembly to secure the new drain tube in place.

Connecting Power

  1. Step 5. Install the wiring harness and pressure switches – The next part in the pump kit is the wire harness and pressure switches. This comes as one part. To install it, slide the open end of the drain tube through the hole in the harness. Then, push the nipple on the harness into the small opening at the curve of the drain tube.
  2. Step 6. Mount the wire harness – Tuck the wire harness into place and use a screwdriver to mount it onto the unit.
  3. Step 7. Connect the power supply – Start by pulling the zip tie holding the main power cord to the power supply going up to the board loose. Then, connect the main power cord to the wire harness.
    1. Note. The black and white cord for the main power matches with the black and white cord on the wire harness.
  4. Step 8. Connect the control board – The red and white cord on the wire assembly can now be connected to the control board.

Connecting the Pump Motor

  1. Step 9. Install the pump motor – Slide the pump motor over the back and side brackets. Then, slide the open end of the drain tube onto the front of the motor. Use a c-clamp to secure the tube. The last thing you need to do to install the motor is to connect the remaining cord on the wire harness to the cord from the pump motor.
  2. Step 10. Mount the pump motor – After everything is connected to the motor, mount it onto the brackets with the washers and locknuts.
  3. Step 11. Install the drain tubing – Put the pipe clamp over one end of the tubing, then connect that end to the nipple of the pump motor. Use channel locks to secure it. The remaining tubing can be snaked through the hole of the back panel  removed in step 1.
