Repairing printed circuit boards isn’t even a consideration for field repair techs. Otherwise, even if you’re an “in-house” tech who might be thinking about it, newer boards using SMT and multi-layer layouts make it virtually impossible to repair printed circuit boards anymore. I’m sure that ignition control falls into that category.

Repairing surface mount boards gets very high in labor cost and necessary bench equipment. Just a simple soldering station is $700. You need board positioning, lighted magnifiers, A variable power supply, a quality bench multi-meter, and a bread board with a lot of spare components to “make” test power and load. And biggest of all, a steady delicate touch.

But if you have a lot of them, someone’s changing them because of a deeper problem. Missed diagnosis. I’m willing to bet that most are not bad. But the ground sensing path of the machine is. Unless they have suffered environmental damage.
