Ice-O-Matic GEM & MFI Ice Machine Error Light Diagnostics

The flashing error light might leave an end-user worried, but you, the tech, can rest easy knowing it’s there to help you decode what’s wrong with the unit. However, it might be a little difficult to remember all of them and what they mean. So skip the memorizing or wasting time pouring through manuals to find the answer. Follow these Ice-O-Matic GEM and MFI ice machine error light diagnostics tips to get to the fix you need to make your customers happy.

Water OK Light

  • Appearance – This light is typically a solid green color and is the top light on the control board.
  • Causes – This light indicates the reservoir is full of water when it’s on. However, if this light is off, it could mean there is either a bad sensor or there’s no water in the reservoir.

Power Light

  • Appearance – This light is directly below the Water OK light on the control board. It also will appear as a solid green color when lit up.
  • Causes – This light indicates the unit has power when it’s on. When this light is off there is either no power to the unit or one of the safety devices tripped.

Freeze Light

  • Appearance – This light is the middle red bulb on the control board. The light will either be on, off or blinking.
  • Causes – This light lets us know when the system is either running or if the light is blinking, it means the unit is pending start up.

Bin Full Light

  • Appearance – This light is the bottom red bulb on the control board. The light will either be on, off or blinking.
  • Causes – When the light is off it means the bin isn’t full. A blinking light signals the unit is shutting down due to a full bin. If the light is on but isn’t blinking there could be an issue with the ice sensors

LED 1 & 3 Light

  • Appearance – These are the two clear bulbs on the control board. The light for these will either be on or off. They never blink.
  • Causes – These lights are for the unit gear motor and compressor

Service Light

  • Appearance – This light is the top red bulb on the control board. The light will either be on, off or blinking.
  • Causes – When this light is off it means the unit is operating normally. When the light is blinking then the machine has sensed a gear motor over amp draw. When the light is on and solid then the unit has reached its max attempts and the unit needs to be reset.
